Death toll rises to two as rescue efforts continue in Avenor building collapse
Rescue teams have recovered another body from the rubble of the collapsed building at Avenor in North Kaneshie, in the Greater Accra Region, increasing the confirmed death toll to two.
The incident, which occurred on Sunday, June 7, has left families and residents in distress as emergency responders continue search and rescue operations for any remaining persons believed to be trapped under the debris.
Two other victims have so far been pulled from the wreckage and rushed to Ridge Hospital in Accra, where they are receiving emergency medical care.
The collapsed structure, which reportedly housed both residential and commercial occupants, came down suddenly, causing panic in the densely populated neighbourhood.
Emergency response teams, including disaster management personnel, security agencies and medical staff, were quickly deployed to the scene and have since been working around the clock.
Rescue operations are ongoing, with teams carefully combing through the rubble to ensure no additional victims remain trapped. Both heavy machinery and manual extraction methods are being used to clear debris, while caution is being taken to avoid triggering further collapses of unstable sections.
