Tanyigbe Dzafe unveils new divisional chief, roll out development agenda

The people of Tanyigbe Dzafe have officially installed Torgbe Amekokodokoe Sunu III as their new Divisional Chief

The people of Tanyigbe Dzafe have officially installed Torgbe Amekokodokoe Sunu III as their new Divisional Chief, ushering in a new chapter of leadership marked by a strong commitment to unity, education, youth empowerment and community development.

The colourful coronation ceremony attracted traditional leaders, clergy, government officials, family members and residents from across the Volta Region, all gathered to witness the enstoolment of the new chief, known in private life as Emmanuel Atta Avornyo.

The installation follows the passing of his paternal uncle, Torgbe Yaw Sunu II, who served as Divisional Chief of Tanyigbe Dzafe for 55 years until his demise in 2025. The late chief was the first king of the community after his installation nearly a decade following Ghana's independence and is remembered for his long and dedicated service to the traditional area.

Following his passing, elders and kingmakers embarked on consultations to identify a suitable successor to continue the legacy of leadership and development. Their choice eventually settled on Emmanuel Atta Avornyo, whose background in education, professional service and religious leadership earned him broad support.

Born on April 19, 1975, Torgbe Amekokodokoe Sunu III is a graduate of Ho Technical University. He has worked extensively in corporate and religious institutions and currently serves as a Presiding Elder of The Church of Pentecost.

Addressing a large gathering during his coronation, the newly installed chief expressed gratitude to the elders, kingmakers and people of Tanyigbe Dzafe for the confidence reposed in him.

He described the stool as a sacred trust that belongs to the people and pledged to lead with humility, integrity and a deep sense of responsibility.

"I sit on this throne with all humility. This stool does not belong to me; it belongs to every one of you gathered here. I am only its keeper," he stated.

According to him, the greatest challenge before him is not the weight of the stool but ensuring that he remains faithful to the responsibility of promoting truth, unity and the welfare of future generations.

Torgbe Amekokodokoe Sunu III emphasized that development would be a key focus of his reign. He called on residents to put aside their differences and work together to accelerate the progress of the community.

He identified education as a critical pillar of development, stressing that no community can achieve sustainable growth without investing in its children and young people.

"A town that does not read will not lead," he remarked, while pledging to work closely with schools, teachers, churches, parents and other stakeholders to improve educational outcomes and support underprivileged students.

The chief also advocated stronger collaboration between traditional institutions and religious bodies, noting that both play important roles in shaping responsible and productive communities.

He explained that tradition and faith should not be viewed as opposing forces but as complementary institutions capable of working together for the common good.

"Our tradition teaches respect, while our faith teaches love. Together, they can guide our community toward a better future," he said.

Touching on economic development, Torgbe Amekokodokoe Sunu III appealed to the Member of Parliament for the Ho Central Constituency, Edem Kofi Kpotosu, and the Volta Regional Minister to support efforts aimed at creating employment opportunities for young people in the municipality.

He expressed concern about the growing number of youth migrating to urban centres in search of jobs and called for targeted interventions to create sustainable livelihoods within the community.

The chief also highlighted agriculture as a major economic opportunity for the area, citing the availability of fertile land and favourable conditions for farming.

He appealed to government agencies, development partners and private investors to support local farmers and invest in agricultural ventures that could boost productivity, create jobs and improve household incomes.

Torgbe Amekokodoe Sunu III further urged residents to actively participate in the development agenda of the community and assured them that his administration would remain open, transparent and accountable.

He encouraged the youth to contribute innovative ideas and energies towards the transformation of Tanyigbe Dzafe, stressing that community development requires collective effort.

The newly installed chief also appealed to pastors and religious leaders to continue praying for the peace, stability and prosperity of the traditional area.

He concluded by calling on natives living outside the community not to forget their roots but to contribute their knowledge, resources and expertise toward the growth and development of Tanyigbe Dzafe.

The coronation ceremony ended with traditional rites, cultural performances and goodwill messages from dignitaries, as residents expressed optimism that the reign of Torgbe Amekokodokoe Sunu III will bring renewed progress, unity and prosperity to the community.
