Flooding is now a festival in Ghana, we have it every year – Kamal-Deen Abdulai
Alhaji Kamal-Deen Abdulai has stated that Ghana’s flooding problem persists because authorities continue to respond after disasters occur instead of taking preventive action.
Speaking on TV3’s New Day, the NPP deputy communications director said flooding has become a predictable annual event that authorities repeatedly discuss without delivering lasting solutions.
“We come every year and sit down and talk about it,” he said.
Kamal-Deen agreed with the view that flooding has become almost routine in the country, arguing that the cycle continues because institutions responsible for planning and enforcement are not acting decisively enough.
According to him, local authorities, engineers, planners and political leaders all have roles to play in preventing future disasters.
“Our leaders must be proactive. Our contractors and engineers must be proactive. Our local authorities must be proactive,” he stressed.
He called for a complete rethink of how cities are planned and managed, insisting that Ghana must move beyond discussions and focus on practical measures that reduce flooding year after year.
Kamal-Deen added that effective planning, enforcement and accountability remain critical if the country hopes to reverse the trend.
