Mother, son arrested over alleged murder of husband at Nsawam-Adoagyiri

Abigail Cheetham and son Prince Cheetham

The Ghana Police Service has arrested a 34-year-old woman, Abigail Cheetham, and her son, Prince Cheetham, for their alleged involvement in the murder of her husband and the attempted murder of his 15-year-old son at Nsawam-Adoagyiri in the Eastern Region.

The suspects have been remanded into police custody as investigations continue.

The deceased, identified as Nicholas Cheetham, 36, a land agent, was reportedly killed at his residence on Saturday, March 7, 2026. His 15-year-old son, Richmond, survived the attack but sustained severe injuries.

Preliminary police investigations suggest that the incident stemmed from a domestic dispute after Abigail allegedly discovered that her husband had fathered a child outside their marriage. Although the matter was initially resolved after Nicholas reportedly apologised and compensated his wife, Abigail is said to have later demanded a plot of land and additional money, which investigators believe escalated tensions in the home.

Police sources indicate that on the night of the incident, Nicholas gave Abigail GH¢30,000 to keep for him. It is alleged that Abigail informed her son, Prince, about the money and a plan against her husband. Prince is also accused of recruiting an accomplice and offering GH¢8,000 from the money to carry out the attack.

Investigators further allege that around 12:30 a.m., Abigail engaged Nicholas in sexual intercourse, reportedly to put him to sleep, before Prince and the accomplice were called into the room where the fatal attack occurred.

While attempting to dispose of the body, the suspects allegedly noticed Richmond watching through a window. They then turned on him, inflicting serious injuries, including blows to the head with a cement block. He was left for dead but later regained consciousness and managed to escape to a neighbour’s house, where he raised an alarm.

The Eastern Regional Police Command confirmed the arrests, stating that officers responded swiftly to the incident and that investigations are ongoing, with a search underway for a third suspect. The injured teenager is currently receiving treatment.

The body of Nicholas Cheetham has been deposited at a morgue for preservation and autopsy.
