CCC marks Rev. Ransford Obeng’s 70th birthday with major blood donation drive for KATH

The Calvary Charismatic Center (CCC) is set to commemorate the 70th birthday of its General Overseer, Reverend Ransford Obeng, with a large-scale voluntary blood donation exercise aimed at replenishing stocks at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital Blood Bank.

The exercise, scheduled for Saturday at the church’s headquarters in Ayigya, Kumasi, forms part of activities marking the milestone birthday celebration of the renowned clergyman and is expected to attract hundreds of congregants and well-wishers.

The initiative, which has become a hallmark of CCC’s annual calendar, was instituted a decade ago when Rev. Obeng turned 60. Over the years, it has evolved into a significant humanitarian intervention, helping to boost blood supplies for emergency and critical healthcare needs in the Ashanti Region.

Addressing members during Sunday’s service, CCC Resident Minister, Pastor Joshua Obeng, called on congregants to participate massively in the exercise as a practical demonstration of love and support for their spiritual leader.

He emphasized that the donation would be conducted under strict medical supervision by personnel from KATH to ensure that only eligible and healthy individuals are allowed to donate.

“We appeal to all members to voluntarily make time for this worthy cause. One of the greatest gifts we can offer in celebration of our General Overseer is the gift of life to people in need,” he said.

Organizers are targeting at least 700 successful donations from the Ayigya headquarters alone, a figure expected to significantly strengthen blood reserves at the hospital.

Speaking ahead of the event during a media engagement, Rev. Obeng explained that the annual exercise was inspired by painful accounts of patients who lost their lives due to shortages of blood in hospitals.

According to him, the stories compelled him to transform his birthday celebrations into an opportunity to save lives and support the healthcare system.

“What began as a personal commitment has become a mission of compassion and service. We hope this culture of voluntary blood donation will spread across all our branches around the world,” he noted.

With CCC now boasting more than 650 branches globally, church leaders believe the initiative has the potential to inspire a broader movement of voluntary blood donation among members and the general public.

The blood donation exercise will be followed by a grand Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, June 7, at the church’s headquarters, where local and international dignitaries are expected to join family, friends and church members in celebrating Rev. Obeng’s life and ministry.

Widely regarded as a pioneer of charismatic Christianity in the Ashanti Region, Rev. Obeng is credited with establishing the region’s first English-speaking charismatic church, a vision that later grew into the globally recognized Calvary Charismatic Center.

Church leaders say the 70th birthday celebrations will not only honor his decades of spiritual leadership but also highlight his enduring commitment to humanitarian service and community development.
