Ghanaians and other Africans in Cambodia ordered to leave by May 31
The Government of the Kingdom of Cambodia has issued a directive ordering all African nationals, including Ghanaians, to leave the country by May 31.
The order, issued by the General Department of Immigration under the Ministry of Interior, follows the expiration of a temporary waiver granted to foreign residents in the Southeast Asian country.
The notice affects citizens from several countries, including Ghana, Kenya, Cameroon, and Uganda, who are currently residing in Cambodia under the said waiver arrangement.
“All foreign nationals whose fines have been cleared must leave Cambodia on or before 31st of May 2026,” the General Department of Immigration stated.
The notice further cautioned that individuals who overstay the deadline will face arrest and prosecution under Cambodian immigration laws.
“Any foreign national who enters, remains or is found in Cambodia from 1st of June 2026 will be arrested at the airport or at any location and shall: serve a jail term of 2 (two) years; and pay a penalty of $8,000 before being allowed to leave Cambodia,” it cautioned.
“All concerned are hereby informed to strictly comply with this notice. The Royal Government of Cambodia will not tolerate any violation of our immigration laws,” the notice added.
