The New Patriotic Party: Dishonest and Cruel

The humiliating defeat suffered by the New Patriotic Party in the 2024 general elections was not accidental; it was the direct verdict of a suffering Ghanaian people against arrogance, economic mismanagement, propaganda, and state-sponsored intimidation.

Today, the same government that presided over unprecedented hardship, unbearable cost of living, unemployment, corruption scandals, and the collapse of businesses now seeks to reinvent itself as the defender of democracy and accountability.

Their sudden outrage over every policy decision of the National Democratic Congress government is not born out of patriotism, but political bitterness and desperation.

For eight years, many Ghanaians endured untold suffering under the NPP administration. Citizens who complained were insulted, journalists were intimidated, protestors were brutalized, and state institutions were weaponized against perceived opponents.

Yet these same individuals now mount platforms daily pretending to care about justice and national interest.

What is even more disappointing is their continued reliance on propaganda and misinformation to undermine the administration of President John Dramani Mahama. They deliberately twist government policies, misrepresent facts, and create fear among the public simply to score cheap political points.

Labeling the transfer of distressed foreign-owned mines to a competent Ghanaian company as “nationalization” is intellectually dishonest and politically mischievous.

The NPP appears unable to come to terms with the reality that Ghanaians rejected them at the polls because the people had become tired of deception and hardship. Their frustration is evident in the constant attacks on the media, civil society organizations, and even former allies who refuse to amplify their propaganda and lies.

Meanwhile, President Mahama has demonstrated patience, tolerance, and leadership despite persistent provocation from sections of the opposition. Unfortunately, this democratic tolerance is being mistaken for weakness by some rowdy opposition Members of Parliament whose conduct continues to lower the dignity of Parliament.

They are deliberately abusing the magnanimity and tolerance of President Mahama. Equally, the inability of Speaker Alban Sumana Bagbin to firmly discipline some rowdy Members of Parliament has emboldened certain elements within the opposition to continue their disruptive and unpatriotic conduct.

No government can solve eight years of economic decline overnight. However, within this short period, Ghanaians can see deliberate efforts by the NDC government to stabilize the economy, restore confidence, create opportunities, and rebuild state institutions.

The NDC government remains focused on governance while the opposition remains trapped in bitterness and propaganda. In the end, it is the Ghanaian people who will judge fairly based on performance, truth, and results not noise, deception, or political theatrics.
