Paga Gets New Animal Market Through Paga Youth Movement Interventions to Boosts Economic Activities
The people of Paga have received a major economic boost following the commissioning of a new animal market aimed at enhancing livestock trading, improving livelihoods, and stimulating local economic growth.
The newly inaugurated market is expected to serve as a strategic commercial hub for livestock farmers, traders, and buyers within the Kassena-Nankana area and neighboring communities, including cross-border traders from Burkina Faso.
Speaking at the ceremony,the District Chief Executive of Kasena Nankana West District,Hon. Stephen Akurugu indicated that the animal will significantly improve trading conditions, increase revenue generation, and create employment opportunities for the youth and women engaged in animal rearing and trading.
Added that,the idea of having animals market came at the back of an engagement with the Paga Youth Movement Leadership. "They called for a site allocation purposely for trading of animals within the Kasena area since most of the locals are into rearing of livestocks, considering the significant of the present of the animals market,we bought into the idea", Hon. Stephen explained.
The Chairman of Paga Youth Movement, Wenawome Duriyem Aborah described the project as a timely intervention that would strengthen the local economy and support the livelihoods of many households that depend on livestock business for survival. He noted that after thorough consultation with the animals dealers, they agreed to have a new site for the trading of animals to create more jobs and economic opportunities for the youth in the area,so the District Assembly and other stakeholders quickly intervened to ensure that land is allocated for the animals market, so thanks all those who contributed for success and commissioning of market.
Mr. Abdul-Aziz Suleman on behalf of Chairman of Livestocks Dealers,Alhaji Faruk Kaba,expressed appreciation for the initiative, stating that the market will would attract more buyers and investors to the area. According to him, the availability of a dedicated animal market will not only improve business transactions but also promote regional trade and economic integration.
The commissioning of the animal market forms part of broader efforts to improve rural economic infrastructure and empower communities through agriculture and commerce. Community members are optimistic that the project will contribute to poverty reduction and sustainable development in the area.
