'You were caught on tape' — Martin Kpebu questions Godfred Dame’s moral right to criticise AG over Adu-Boahene trial

Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has challenged former Attorney General Godfred Dame over his comments on the ongoing GH¢49 million National Signals Bureau (NSB) trial involving former NSB Director General Kwabena Adu-Boahene and his wife.

Speaking on TV3, Mr Kpebu argued that Mr Dame lacks the moral authority to criticise the current prosecution process because of controversies that emerged during his tenure as Attorney General.

His comments follow testimony by the third prosecution witness in the case, who told an Accra High Court that Kwabena Adu-Boahene and his wife allegedly signed cheque books in advance, which were later used to withdraw funds from company accounts linked to them.

During proceedings before Justice Francis Achibonga, former Advantage Solutions director Mildred Donkor identified several cheque books associated with Advantage Solutions, BNC Communications Bureau Ltd, and Vertex Solutions Ltd. She told the court that the cheque books had been pre signed by Adu Boahene and Angela Adjei Boateng.

Reacting to public discussions surrounding the trial, Mr Kpebu praised current Attorney General Dominic Ayine for what he described as a professional approach to the case.

“You look at the track record of the person in the saddle,” he stated. “Ayine has acquitted himself creditably.”

Mr Kpebu subsequently turned his attention to Mr Dame, citing the controversial “Jakpa tape” connected to the ambulance procurement trial.

“Godfred Dame was caught on tape admitting that state machinery was being used to prosecute political opponents,” Mr Kpebu alleged.

According to him, the controversy significantly undermined the former Attorney General’s credibility on matters relating to prosecutorial ethics and fairness.

“The internet does not forget. That tape will always be there,” he added.
