We Have No Parties Only Prodigal Politicians Fighting For The Treasury

Africa, for how long! We reap the dysfunctional seeds we sow. Our leaders who are today the fathers and mothers of Nepo-Children swear that their children must enjoy everything they lack or were denied when growing up under disciplined or poor parents. When other members of the communities see the outrageous and conspicuous spending of money their leaders did not earn, they emulate them. Even if not in politics, they die trying to get rich by any means.

Each of the recircled prodigal politicians would do anything to empty the Treasury, promising Salvation for almost 70 years. Instead of the masses fighting their oppressors directly, they waste their energy and useful time falling for ethnic distraction of the three ethnic groups getting Power to become the President. While the voters and the combatants ignore most of the well qualified minorities across the North to South of the country, the hegemon takes charge.

Nigerians have lost count and even number to so many millions and billions Prodigal Politicians and their cronies have looted out of the country. There are so many investigations at home and abroad to recover billions in dollars which were never returned home. If these looted funds are repatriated back to Nigeria, another set of looters are waiting to recoup them into their private pockets. We wonder at what point the disenfranchised people would have enough and revolt!

The American popular documentary series written by Alex Hailey in the 70s showed when a white child asked the father: if you said Africans were too dumb, why would you not allow them to read and write. He answered that education was a double-edged sword. It would cut both ways. South African white leaders including P. W Botha and Ian Smith of Rhodesia predicted that you cannot leave Africans to themselves because they would be self-destructive.

Indeed, nobody asks how people make their money anymore, unlike the days when living above your means exposed some odious means of income. We used to report our fellow students who spend money suspiciously. Even today, a few parents have refused expensive gifts from their children because they do not know his means of income while other parents gleefully accept expensive cars. If you report their children, they would ask you “shey nah your money he steal”?

Who would believe that the children of African Freedom Fighters whose fathers and mothers sacrificed their comfort for in jails, beaten by Police, bitten by police dogs and killed in their struggle to free their people from colonial slavery, would encourage Nepo Kids. They live in luxury encouraged and abetted by the same countries that denied Africa even independence. As Nkrumah envisaged and taught, political Independence is far from economic Independence.

What and who did Africans offend to put or strike us with the curse of poverty perpetrated on us by our own leaders and foreign countries looking out for their own economic exploits. Even worse, the curse of poverty from within by a few political leaders who aggrandize themselves at the expense, right in front of the majority they despise and ridicule. Yet, the African majority continue to endure because they expect crumps from their master’s table.

When pastors and imams who are supposed to lead us Africa into righteousness become exploiters of the common masses using the same tactics foreign religions used to oppress Africans; we must repent and beg for forgiveness from the Spirit we have abandoned. This is beyond being a good Christian or Muslim. If we offended our Spirits, Culture and Activists that liberated us from colonial powers politically; we must retrace our steps.

All the praises and eulogies used to stimulate and raise African spirits have been transferred to foreign gods we never knew until we were converted to their local heroes that performed wonder they worship and are proud of. The same way Constantine decreed Christianity from Rome upon the rest of Europe after he was converted. By Crusade and Jihad the way Islam was spread to and from the Middle East.

Indeed religion has become an African political campaign while in fact every political leader is looking for the best way into the Treasury! While the Europeans and Arabs may have tempered Crusade and Jihad within themselves, Africans have madly embraced their religions to destroy their own while abandoning their local religions and heroes! Our cultures have become renegade as we are proud to bear their baptized names as we replace our heroes with theirs.

Cardinal Francis Arinze, who was rumored to be the next Pope in May 2025, was not even among the 115 cardinals that elected Pope Leo XIV. They continue to treat Africans as second class converts. Compare and contrast Santería, or La Regla de Ocha, developed in 19th-century Cuba by those denied their religious beliefs during Slavery. They focused on building personal relationships with deities called Orishas hidden behind Catholic Saints.

The foreigners we worship have one drop rule. Any Black blood mixed with them disqualifies you from privileges they enjoyed as a super race. On the other hand, Blacks in Diaspora and in Africa value any relationship with whites or anything close, no matter how remote. It is therefore not unusual for Black to relate back to their great grandfather slave owner or the rapist of their great grandmother. Some Africans relate back to their days when they were maids or nannies!

Poverty in the midst of plenty of resources Africans refuse to appreciate and develop are obviously exploited by explorers from foreign land that come and use our leaders as conduits to launder our riches abroad; their accessories to money laundering. Yet when Africans break their rules, these abettors seize the money, going into their treasury. They pay themselves legal and financial fees for recovery before confiscating fortune that would go a long way to relief our poor.

Recovery is not enough, there must be some severe deterrence to protect the next generation from emulating Vagabonds-In-Power. There is hardly a day goes by without another discovery of billions unaccounted for. The irony is the consequences are staring in the faces of millions of Africans who can hardly afford one meal a day. Yet, these politicians insult our intelligence and patience by spraying money at humongous parties in our midst. How do they get away with it?

These developing countries spend more of their meagre income on imported weapons to fight one another than they spend taking care of their people. While many countries advance and develop, most African countries regress as they spend most of their foreign reserves in these Western and Eastern countries. As soon as a new African government is elected or the Military takes over, they sign ambitious contracts through their politicians that keep kickbacks abroad.

It is un-African to be so indifferent to the suffering of the masses. Some Africans are willing to vote for a corrupt leader as long as he is from their ethnic group rather than vote for a capable leader from another ethnic group. Political leaders today are so recklessly imbued in corruption as if it is a Right. They defy any accountability as the same people they oppress locally, sing their praises once induced with crumbs of the National Cake shared with their colleagues.
