Bongo: Zorko-Gambrongo Assemblyman organises free health screening for residents
Abiire Awineyesma, Assemblyman for the Zorko-Gambrongo Electoral Area, organised a free health screening exercise for residents in Zorko and surrounding communities as part of efforts to promote quality healthcare delivery at the grassroots level.
The exercise was held on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at the St. Theresa Catholic Center in Zorko, where residents received free medical screening and treatment services.
The screening focused on eye screening and treatment, blood pressure checks, blood sugar testing, blood level checks, and optional HIV testing.
The initiative was organised in collaboration with St. Theresa Catholic Health Center and the Presbyterian Eye Clinic to help residents know their health status and seek early medical attention where necessary.
Some residents welcomed the initiative, describing it as timely and beneficial to the community.
“Many people in the community are unable to visit the hospital regularly because of financial challenges. This programme helped us check our health status for free,” a resident said.
Another beneficiary noted that the eye screening component greatly benefited elderly people in the area.
“A lot of our parents and grandparents struggle with eye problems but cannot afford treatment. This exercise helped many families,” she stated.
