Kennedy Agyapong rejects co-chair appointment by Bawumia

Former Assin Central MP, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has formally turned down an appointment to serve as Co-Chair after being offered the role by Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

In a letter dated May 8, 2026, Mr Agyapong thanked Dr Bawumia for the offer but explained that he was unable to accept the appointment at this time.

He indicated that his decision was based on “personal and strategic reasons” which currently require his full attention and commitment elsewhere.

Although he declined the position, the businessman and former legislator reaffirmed his loyalty and commitment to the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

“I remain committed to the progress and unity of our party and will continue to support every genuine effort aimed at strengthening our collective vision for Ghana,” portions of the letter stated.

Mr Agyapong also wished Dr Bawumia success in his future endeavours.

His decision comes at a time when the NPP is putting together its leadership and policy structures ahead of future political activities.
