Superpower in name but not on the ground

Stop calling yourselves superpowers because you aren’t. You call yourselves, and pride in being, superpowers, because of your enormous military arsenals and varied weapons stockpiles, however, in the candid estimation of the writer, you are not.

In the ongoing conventional wars between Russia and Ukraine and the United States of America (USA) and the Islamic Republic of Iran, the believed superpowers, thus, Russia and America, seem to be having a drubbing.

The comparatively smaller and less militarily cum economically developed nations are giving the bigger and universally renowned superpowers a tougher time and a run for their money and might.

Before the start of these two wars that are impacting the world so badly, Russia and the USA were the two most feared nations in the world, come to the consideration of military might and war capabilities. But what are we witnessing on the ground today? The smaller nations have withstood their ground, fighting the bigger nations without blinkering or succumbing. Wow!

Is it not the massive possession of nuclear weapons that make these two nations and China the most feared nations in the world? What, if such military arsenals are forever forbidden from use by the United Nations “Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons”, adopted in 2017 and came into force on 22ndJanuary 2021?

Is the situation not comparable to a hungry dog sitting before a bar of soap that is not edible to quench its hunger?

The weapons that can subdue these smaller nations are there, but the bigger nations cannot use them, hence the wars dragging on to the detriment of the entire world, sending external shockwaves across worldwide economies, making the cost of living unbearable for many people the world over.

Wherefore are the sting and fear of a superpower nation, if their mass destruction nuclear weapons cannot be used to quickly subdue enemy nations but are there only to scare people; serving as deterrence does not scare the diehards when they are defending the territorial integrity and sovereignty of their nation and again, in the hope of becoming martyrs proceeding to heaven to marry seventy virgins.

Just asking, why were former American presidents not allowed to use their personal mobile phones when they came into office, but President Donald Trump has been allowed unceasingly without censor to communicate his personal feelings and governing policies on his “Truth Social” media?

The “superpower” nations had better bear in mind that they cannot easily defeat nations appearing weak without having the shock of their life.

China, the writer hopes, will take a cue from this before it decides to attack Taiwan that it is determined to seize in future by hook or by crook.

Let there be peace, all ye bully nations and corrupt governments and politicians the world over.

No more wars. No more tears.
