I never interfered in OSP’s work as Attorney General — Dame
Former Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Godfred Yeboah Dame, has denied claims that he interfered in the work of the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) during his tenure.
He says despite his close personal relationship with Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng, he maintained strict professional boundaries and allowed the office to operate independently.
Speaking in an interview on Accra-based JoyNews on Wednesday, May 6, Mr Dame insisted that he never issued directives or influenced prosecutorial decisions.
“Never once did I show any direction to the Special Prosecutor… never at all. Never once did I write a single letter to him in my office,” he said.
He explained that their interactions were largely informal and social, and did not involve case interference or operational control.
“There was never an interference whatsoever by me. I would never issue a single directive by him, because I knew the implications,” he stated.
The former Attorney General added that he trusted the independence of the OSP and respected due process in all legal proceedings under his watch.
According to him, even where government officials were under investigation, he ensured that the law was allowed to take its course without executive interference.
