How father allegedly dragged his son with quad bike on tarred road at North Legon

The Ghana Police Service has arrested a 60-year-old man for allegedly tying his teenage son to a quad motorbike and dragging him along a tarred road at North Legon in Accra, leaving the boy with multiple injuries.

The suspect, identified as Eric Mantey, was apprehended by the Madina Divisional Police Command following the incident, which reportedly occurred near the Adonai Church area on May 3, 2026.

The arrest was confirmed during a press briefing held on Thursday, May 7, 2026, by the Head of Public Affairs at the Police Headquarters, Superintendent Juliana Obeng.

According to police investigations, the victim, a 16-year-old boy and son of the suspect, had allegedly gone out to play football with friends despite instructions from his father not to do so.

Police say the suspect, angered by the boy’s actions, confronted him and allegedly tied him to the quad motorbike before driving off.

The teenager reportedly fell onto the tarred road and was dragged for several minutes until some residents intervened and stopped the suspect.

The victim sustained multiple injuries and was rushed to the hospital for medical treatment.

Speaking at the briefing, Supt. Obeng said the suspect admitted during interrogation that he acted out of anger over his son’s conduct.

“He stated that he acted out of anger over the victim's behaviour,” she said.

She further advised parents and guardians to use lawful and non-violent methods in disciplining children and encouraged the public to report all cases of child abuse to the police and other relevant authorities.
