Gov’t weaponising state agencies against political foes — NPP’s Kamal-Deen
A Deputy National Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kamal-Deen Abdulai, has accused the National Democratic Congress government of using state institutions to target political opponents.
His comments come in the wake of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) rearrest of former Chief Executive Officer of the National Food and Buffer Stock Company, Abdul-Wahab Hanan Aludiba, and his wife, Faiza Seidu Wuni.
The couple, who have been on trial for about a year over alleged corruption-related offences, were re-arrested shortly after the Attorney-General withdrew all charges against them on Tuesday, May 5, citing fresh evidence.
The case centres on alleged irregularities in the procurement and supply of foodstuffs under the national school feeding programme, with earlier claims of a financial loss of about GH¢78 million to the state.
Speaking on Accra-based JoyNews AM Show on Thursday, Mr Kamal-Deen alleged that the development reflects political interference in state prosecutions.
“There is some extra judicial activities against some selected people in this country,” he said.
He further claimed that state institutions are being used to advance partisan interests rather than uphold justice.
“The people are weaponising institutions against their political foes… that is what it is,” he stated.
Mr Kamal-Deen argued that such actions may undermine public confidence in the justice system.
He, however, argued that the propaganda gimmick of the Attorney General will not succeed because "in the courtroom, there is no propaganda… the rule of the game is evidence."
Meanwhile, the couple have been released and are currently being interrogated by EOCO over the New evidence found against them.
