Bono Minister commends Jaman South MCE for replacing 65-year-old school block at Kofiko

The Bono Regional Minister, Joseph Addae Akwaboa, has commended the Municipal Chief Executive for Jaman South, Siata Watara, for spearheading the replacement of a 65-year-old classroom block at Kofiko, a suburb of Drobo.

The project holds personal significance for the MCE, who once attended the same school and has now overseen the construction of a new three-unit classroom block to replace the deteriorated structure.

The Regional Minister noted that the old block had become unsafe, exposing both teachers and pupils to serious risks during teaching and learning. He said the new facility has eliminated those dangers and created a safer environment for education.

The project formed part of the Minister’s inspection tour under the government’s “Accounting to the People” initiative, which involves visiting districts across the Bono Region to assess ongoing development projects and engage with local stakeholders.

Beyond infrastructure, the Minister described the initiative as a demonstration of leadership and commitment to community development, highlighting the MCE’s decision to invest in her hometown and alma mater as an example for others.

In an interview, Madam Watara said the project was her way of giving back to the community that shaped her.

“It was urgent to replace the old classroom block with the new one which has been left for decades,” she said.

The headteacher of Kofiko Primary School, Madam Akrasi Adjei Doris, revealed that pupils previously shared the dilapidated building with reptiles due to its poor condition, and expressed gratitude for the new facility.

A tutor at the school, Madam Faustina Adjei, also described the old structure as hazardous and commended the MCE for her foresight.

Pupils at the school expressed excitement over the new classroom block and praised the MCE for the intervention.
