Fisheries minister to tour inland fishing communities across six regions

The Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture has announced that the sector minister, Mrs Emelia Arthur, will begin a six-day working tour of inland fisheries communities across the country starting Wednesday, May 6, 2026.

In a press statement issued on Tuesday in Accra, the ministry said the tour is aimed at deepening engagement with stakeholders, assessing key facilities and gathering firsthand information on the state of the inland fisheries subsector.

The ministry noted that insights from the exercise will feed into discussions at an upcoming Inland Fisheries Conference.

The statement said the minister will visit selected communities in the Greater Accra, Volta, Oti, Bono East, Savannah, and Ashanti regions.

It said she will engage with fishers, assess infrastructure and participate in a strategic planning session in Techiman during the tour. It also said the exercise reflects its commitment to ensuring that policies are shaped by the experiences and needs of inland fishing communities.

It encouraged stakeholders and the general public to participate in the engagements.
