Tema Region: Upstream challenge causes power outages in Afienya, Katamanso and other areas — ECG

Residents in parts of the Tema Region are experiencing power outages following what the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) describes as an upstream challenge affecting supply.

The interruption, which occurred on Tuesday, May 5, has impacted several communities including Afienya, Katamanso, Prampram, Dawhenya and surrounding areas.

In a statement, the ECG noted that its engineers are working to resolve the fault and restore power as quickly as possible.

“The outage being experienced today, Tuesday, 5th May, 2026 is due to an upstream challenge,” the statement read in part.

“Our Engineers are standing by to restore supply as soon as the challenge is rectified,” ECG added.

ECG has apologised to customers for the inconvenience and assured them of continuous updates as restoration works progress.

Meanwhile, this comes amid recent intermittent power outages being experienced across the country in what the ECG blames on its ongoing transformer replacement and upgrade works.
