PNDC era second gravest crime against humanity after slavery — Miracles Aboagye
Spokesperson for the 2028 New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has described the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) era as the second gravest crime against humanity after slavery.
He said the period under the late Jerry John Rawlings was marked by widespread human rights abuses, including unlawful killings and forced exile of citizens.
Speaking on Accra-based Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana programme on Tuesday, May 5, Miracles Aboagye accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of inheriting a legacy of violence from the military regime.
“If you want a political party that should be standing trial for criminality, human rights abuse for murder, it is the NDC,” he said.
According to him, several families and businesses were destroyed during the period, with many Ghanaians allegedly subjected to torture and public humiliation.
The NPP communicator further claimed that some victims were executed without trial, while others fled the country and remain in exile.
“In fact, if slavery has been declared as one of the greatest atrocities against humanity, then the PNDC era probably is number two in this country,” he stated.
Miracles Aboagye also referenced the killings of judges and other citizens during the era, arguing that the events have had a lasting impact on political sentiments in parts of the country.
