Support us to serve you better — Fire Service urges public
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has appealed to the public to support firefighters in the discharge of their duties, especially during fire outbreaks across the country.
The call comes amid increasing concerns by the Service over reported attacks on firefighters and damage to fire engines while responding to emergencies.
The appeal was made in a statement issued on Monday, May 4, to mark the climax of the 2026 International Firefighters’ Day celebrations.
The Service cautioned that such attacks are unlawful and endanger lives, stressing that they also delay emergency response efforts.
“Attacking firefighters or damaging fire engines is unlawful and puts lives at risk. When firefighters are attacked, it delays emergency response and can lead to loss of lives and property,” the statement read in part.
It further urged the public to treat firefighters as partners in national safety and development.
“Firefighters are your partners in development and safety. Work with us by respecting emergency responders, allowing us to do our job, and protecting our equipment,” it added.
The GNFS also encouraged the public to adopt fire safety practices and report incidents early to improve response times and reduce losses.
