Prisons Service warns public over fake social media accounts soliciting money in its name
The Ghana Prisons Service has cautioned the public against individuals impersonating the Service on social media platforms to defraud unsuspecting persons.
The warning follows reports that some individuals on Facebook and other platforms are using the names of senior officers, including the Director-General, Mrs. Patience Baffoe-Bonnie (Esq.), to solicit money and personal information.
In a public disclaimer issued by the Public Affairs Department at Prisons Headquarters on Monday, May 4, the Service said the fraudulent activities are criminal and must be avoided by the public.
“The Service does not authorise any individual to solicit money, gifts, or personal information on its behalf through social media or unofficial channels,” the statement read in part.
It further clarified that all official recruitment and engagements are strictly conducted through approved channels.
“Recruitment into the Service and all official engagements are conducted through approved and publicly announced procedures only,” it noted.
The Prisons Service also emphasised that no payment is required at any stage of recruitment or official processes.
It urged the public to remain vigilant, avoid sharing personal information with unverified individuals, and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or official channels.
