Disqualified NPP members in Atiwa East seek reinstatement ahead of party vetting
A group of disqualified members of the New Patriotic Party in the Atiwa East Constituency has appealed to the party’s leadership to review their status and reinstate them as delegates.
The appeal comes as the party continues its vetting process for members seeking to contest various constituency-level positions, beginning from the polling station level.
In Atiwa East, about 26 individuals were disqualified after allegedly supporting an independent candidate in previous elections, an action that contravenes party regulations.
The affected members say they regret their actions and are pleading for forgiveness in the interest of unity within the party.
They have also appealed to Mahamudu Bawumia and the party’s national executives to grant them amnesty, emphasising that unity will be crucial to the party’s chances in the 2028 general elections.
According to the group, reintegrating them into the party will help strengthen its grassroots base.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Vetting Committee, Perry Appiah, said the exercise in the constituency has proceeded smoothly with the support of the Member of Parliament and party executives, noting that no major challenges have been recorded.
The situation highlights the party’s attempt to strike a balance between enforcing discipline and promoting reconciliation as it prepares for upcoming political activities.
