Energy sector challenges due to NPP’s reckless mismanagement — Hamza Suhuyini
A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) communications team, Hamza Suhuyini, has blamed the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the recent challenges in Ghana’s energy sector, accusing the former government of reckless financial and policy mismanagement.
His comments come amid ongoing intermittent power outages affecting households, businesses and essential services across the country.
The Minority in Parliament has attributed the situation to alleged failures by the current administration, including claims of defaulting on payments to independent power producers (IPPs).
However, speaking on Accra-based Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily show on Wednesday, April 29, Mr. Suhuyini rejected those claims and defended the current government’s handling of energy sector obligations.
He argued that key financial arrangements under the previous administration were misapplied, leading to long-term sector instability.
“You recklessly misapplied that particular guarantee or loan you got as a result of the collateralization,” he said.
He further accused the NPP of contributing to the current challenges through what he described as poor economic and energy sector management decisions.
“You used a chunk of that to dig the most expensive hole in this country,” he noted, referring to the controversial National Cathedral project.
