Here are areas to experience rotational outages today
A fire outbreak at the GRIDCo substation at Akosombo has disrupted electricity supply across several regions, forcing the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to implement widespread rotational outages on Wednesday, April 29, 2026.
The incident, which occurred on Tuesday, significantly reduced power transmission capacity, leading to supply constraints in parts of the Greater Accra, Ashanti, Eastern, Volta, Oti, and Central Regions.
In response, ECG introduced scheduled load management measures from the early hours of Wednesday through to midnight, with different regions experiencing outages at various intervals throughout the day.
In the Ashanti Region, power was curtailed in multiple phases, affecting communities including Domeabra, Apromase, Appiadu Kokoben, Trabuom, Manso-Nkwanta, and parts of Ejisu during the early hours. Subsequent outages extended to areas such as Asanso, Zongo, Kumawu, Agona Mampong, Nsuta Bodomase, KNUST, Atonsu, Bantama, and Race Course at different times of the day.
The Eastern Region also experienced disruptions, with towns such as Asamankese, Kibi, Nkawkaw, Begoro, Kade, Akim Tafo, and Abirem among those affected during scheduled curtailment periods spanning morning, afternoon, and evening hours.
In the Greater Accra Region, both Accra East and Accra West zones recorded outages. Areas impacted included Adenta, Madina, Teshie, Spintex, Osu, Cantonments, Achimota, Nima, Kwabenya, Dansoman, Kaneshie, Weija, and Kasoa, among others, as power supply fluctuated throughout the day.
Parts of the Volta and Oti Regions, including Ho, Keta, Sogakope, Aflao, Jasikan, and Nkwanta, also experienced power cuts during the early morning and daytime periods.
Additionally, emergency maintenance works at the Asawinso Bulk Supply Point in the Ashanti Region led to temporary outages in areas such as Bibiani, Chirano, Subri, and Nyinahin between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
