Claim military lands have been given to Ibrahim Mahama false — Deputy Defence Minister
The Deputy Minister for Defence, Ernest Brogya Genfi, has dismissed claims that lands belonging to the Ghana Armed Forces have been allocated to President John Dramani Mahama's brother, Ibrahim Mahama for development.
The claims, which circulated on social media and some reports, suggested that the CEO of Engineers and Planners had been given military land for personal or private development.
In a statement shared on social media on Wednesday, April 29, the Deputy Minister described the reports as false and misleading.
“I wish to firmly dismiss and ignore any false and malicious reports suggesting that military lands have been given to the President’s brother to develop. That story is completely untrue,” he stated.
He explained that the Ghana Armed Forces has instead launched a self-help redevelopment project aimed at replacing old and dilapidated structures at Burma Camp in Accra.
According to him, Mr. Ibrahim Mahama has only supported the initiative through a financial contribution and has not been allocated any land.
“What is true is that the Ghana Armed Forces has launched a self-help project to replace the colonial-era, dilapidated buildings within Burma Camp in Accra. In support of this noble initiative, Mr. Ibrahim Mahama… has generously donated GHC120million,” the statement added.
He further noted that the project is being supported by corporate partners and was officially launched at a fundraising luncheon held at the Ghana Military Academy, chaired by Sir Sam Jonah.
