Fix the power crisis and stop the excuses, blame games — Kwame Prempeh urges gov’t
A former Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Public Procurement Authority, Kwame Prempeh, has called on the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government to focus on resolving the country’s ongoing power outages.
His comments come at a time when Ghanaians are experiencing intermittent electricity disruptions, affecting households, businesses and public institutions.
The outages have been attributed to a mix of factors, including transformer upgrades, transmission challenges and a recent fire incident at the GRIDCo substation at Akosombo.
Speaking on Accra-based TV3’s New Day show on Tuesday, April 28, Mr. Prempeh criticised what he described as a pattern of shifting explanations from authorities.
He argued that the situation requires decisive action rather than political blame.
Mr. Prempeh further noted that the power challenges did not start recently, noting that the issue has persisted for several months.
“The issue of intermittent power supply has been going on for almost six months, and the government has been coming out with reasons from time to time."
"The NDC knows what the issues are. The issues have to do with the debt and the financial issues within the energy sector," he stated.
He urged the government to be transparent about the real causes of the crisis and concentrate on practical solutions to restore stable electricity supply.
According to him, addressing the financial and structural challenges within the energy sector should take priority over assigning blame.
He stressed that Ghanaians expect results and not repeated explanations, stressing that the government must act swiftly to stabilise the power system.
