Stephen Adom marks one year in office, outlines key development gains across Ho Municipality
Hon. Stephen Adom, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Ho, has expressed gratitude to God for the progress made in his first year in office following a thanksgiving service held yesterday at the End Time Assemblies of God Church.
Addressing the media after the service, Hon. Adom said the occasion was an opportunity to reflect on the achievements of the past year and to seek divine guidance for the years ahead. He described the milestone as a testament to God’s grace and the collective effort of stakeholders in the municipality.
According to the MCE, several development projects have been executed using the Assembly’s Internally Generated Funds (IGF). He also acknowledged the significant support from the District Assemblies Common Fund, made possible through His Excellency the President, which has enabled the Assembly to undertake critical infrastructure works.
One of the notable achievements, he said, is the beautification of roundabouts and medians along the Sokode-Hull dual carriageway. The areas, which were previously overgrown and unattended, have now been cleared, paved, and landscaped as part of a new urban beautification initiative introduced under his administration.
Hon. Adom added that just last week, the Assembly completed paving works on one of the roundabouts, including all triangular sections, and began greening the area to improve its aesthetics. He emphasized that the Assembly is committed to using its IGF to sustain clean-up and beautification efforts across the municipality.
In the health sector, the MCE announced the completion and commissioning of two-unit nurses’ quarters at both Tokokoe and Matse, as well as CHPS compounds at Bamefedo in Ziavi and Takla Atiyinu. These facilities, he said, are aimed at improving healthcare delivery to underserved communities.
On education, Hon. Adom revealed that a six-unit classroom block is currently under construction at Kpenoe, with another underway at Volta Technical Institute in Matse. A three-unit classroom block is also being built for the people of Hordzo. Additionally, the Assembly has completed and put to use inherited projects, including the Zonal Council building for the Norvisi area at Tokokoe and a two-unit classroom block at Ave.
The MCE highlighted significant progress in the municipality’s road network. He noted that the long-standing road connecting Ho Kpeta through Kpenoe, Takla, and Hordzo has been awarded to a contractor and work is progressing steadily. In Akoefe Township, about three kilometer of roads are being sealed, while in Tanyigbe Township, approximately seven kilometers are under construction.
He further disclosed that a nine-kilometer road is being constructed in Ziavi, linking the Taviefe main road to Ziavi, Lume, and the Bamefedo enclaves. Plans are also underway to upgrade the entire Ziavi township road network, with the project currently at the procurement stage.
On road maintenance, Hon. Adom said gravelling works have been completed behind the barracks along CK Road to the Lizdi Shopping Mall area, with similar works scheduled to begin this week in the Dabra area. Patching works have also been carried out in Lighthouse, the market area, Zongo, Deme, Akoefe, Tanyigbe, Tokokoe, Nyive, and Klave.
Addressing challenges, the MCE noted that while the Assembly is committed to timely delivery, progress is sometimes slowed by bureaucratic processes and a lack of urgency among some stakeholders. He described the laid-back attitude toward work as a concern but said he is managing it to ensure projects are completed.
Looking ahead, Hon. Adom said residents should expect a significant expansion of the municipality’s road network in the coming year. He is also actively pursuing the approval of the Hoviefe–Klefe–Akrofu road project and noted that several major roads have been earmarked for Ho under the government’s “Big Push” programme. He added that a comprehensive Municipal Development Plan will soon be launched, and he called on both local and foreign investors to partner with the Assembly in developing the capital city.
On security, the MCE revealed that the Assembly has received reports of suspicious activities involving certain foreign nationals forming groups to engage in theft within the municipality. He assured residents that the matter is being handled with the appropriate security agencies and that measures are being put in place to enhance safety. He concluded by appealing for the continuous prayers of the people, stating that with God’s guidance and public support, the Assembly will overcome challenges and achieve its development goals.
