Suspected killers of Sammy Gyamfi's father-in-law not escaped — Police

The Ghana Police Service has debunked media reports suggesting that suspects arrested in connection with the murder of Andrew Amankwa, father-in-law of Sammy Gyamfi, have escaped from custody.

Andrew Amankwa was shot during a robbery attack at Ohwim Tigo Junction in Kumasi on Friday, February 13. He later died from his injuries on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, despite receiving medical treatment.

Following the incident, four suspects were arrested through a coordinated operation involving the Police Intelligence Directorate, the Anti-Robbery Unit and the Cyber Vetting and Enforcement teams.

Reports that emerged on April 27, 2026, claimed the suspects had broken out of custody. However, police sources have firmly rejected the claims, insisting that all suspects remain in lawful custody as judicial proceedings continue.
