Man, 23, jailed 7 years for defiling 12-year-old in Hohoe

A 23-year-old man, Felix Agbodzi, has been sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment by the Hohoe Circuit Court for defiling a 12-year-old girl at Gbi-Akplamafu in the Volta Region.

The conviction was secured by the Volta North Regional Police Command after investigations established that the accused lured the victim to his residence and subjected her to sexual abuse.

He was arrested on April 13, and arraigned the following day before the court presided over by His Honour Lambert Yiringabaque Kariba, where he pleaded guilty to the charge.

“The Volta North Regional Police Command has secured the conviction of Felix Agbodzi, aged 23, for defilement of a 12-year-old girl at Gbi-Akplamafu in the Volta Region,” the police said in a statement dated April 24.

The offence is contrary to Section 101(2) of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29), under which the accused was charged and convicted.

Police say the swift arrest and prosecution highlight their commitment to tackling sexual and gender-based violence in the region.

The law enforcement agency further called for increased public vigilance and cooperation to help curb such crimes and protect vulnerable persons, especially children.

“The Volta North Regional Police Command urges members of the public not to hesitate in reporting defilement and related criminal offences and warns persons engaged in such acts will face the full rigours of the law,” the statement urged.
