2.6m Ghanaians still food insecure despite 91% national consumption levels
Despite Ghana recording high national food consumption levels, millions are still struggling to access adequate nutrition.
The latest Food Insecurity Vulnerability Report by the Ghana Statistical Service reveals that about 2.6 million Ghanaians remain food insecure, even though 91 percent of the population reports acceptable food consumption.
The report, covering the final quarter of 2025, estimates that 29.8 million people are food secure. However, this national average masks deep regional disparities.
Food insecurity is heavily concentrated in the northern belt including the North East, Northern, Upper East and Upper West regions where nearly 40 percent of households experience poor or borderline food consumption.
