Mephibosheth in Lo-debar

“The King then asked him, “is anyone still alive from Saul’s family? If so, I want to show God’s kindness to them in any way I can.’ Ziba replied. ‘Yes, one of Jonathan’s sons is still alive, but he is crippled” - 2 Samuel 9: 3

You are walking into a new beginning! You have been pushed down, wounded, forgotten and isolated? Or maybe your life, business, relationship, vision and destiny have been crippled, this message is for you. God is pulling and raising you again in Jesus’ name! Mephibosheth was the son of Jonathan, the grandson of King Saul. At the age 5, he fell down from the hand of a maid who was trying to escape with him to safety. His both feet crippled from that unfortunate accident. But as if that was not enough, the now crippled prince was taken to the house of one Makir whose name means uncertainty, a son of Ammiel, an unknown man in the town of Lo-debar. A town that means desolation, barrenness, isolation - My God! Hope you are following this chain of unfortunate events? First, he lost his father, grandfather and uncles in a battle. Then, as he was escaping he fell down and permanently, totally lost his mobility - two feet. And worse, he now found himself in the house of uncertainty, the son of nobody and isolated in the land of barrenness. Jesus! Does any of these relate to your present situation?

Every time I read through this portion of the bible I get very emotional because I can relate to some of these situations and have also ministered to a lot of people in the same. This young man was named Mephibosheth at birth. His name means exterminator, destroyer, remover of shame. But, instead of removing the shame, he ate, drank, wore and smelt shame, disappointment and disgrace. But unfortunately, he had no contribution to all that happened to him. He had no control to the chain of events that finally, ultimately, successfully isolated him from throne, royalty, love of parents, good health, good life and loving relations. Remember he was a prince and a potential king of Israel. What has happened to you? Are you another Mephibosheth? What have you lost that looks irreplaceable in your life? What part of your life had been crippled? Your health? Your finance? Your relationship? Your family? Your marriage? Your business? Your spiritual life? Your ministry? Or your destiny? You presently feel hopeless, helpless, abandoned, overwhelmed, confused, abandoned and permanently stuck, and have resigned to fate?? That was exactly where Mephibosheth found himself. He knew he was a prince, a royal and not where he was supposed to be, but was overwhelmed by events and situations that he could not control. Now, before we continue, it will be good to point out here that the foundation of this chain of events was the divine curse upon his grandfather Saul. The handsome but careless, proud and disobedient king fell out of favor with God and that stimulated the calamities that befell him, his family and the kingdom. Yes, if Saul had done well and was still the king of Israel, he wouldn’t have lost his life, his sons, especially the precious Jonathan, who was Mephibosheth’s father in a battle. And there would not have been the situation that will warrant the maid to start running away with the young prince, that eventually took away his feet in an accident. Yes, things don’t just happen. There are always causes and effects even when we don’t see or know them. Where you are now maybe the effects of others’ or even your own actions or inactions. Sorry, we can’t go into all these here. Thank God there came a solution. As King David was settling on the throne he asked if anybody was still remaining in the house of Saul, so that he could show him kindness because of his friend Jonathan. Wow! David remembers his dear, committed, faithful friend Jonathan. The word of God said that their love for each other was better, stronger than that of a man and woman. Do you remember your friends? Do you remember relationships, covenants, yesterday bonds and favors? Some immediately run away after the death of their friends, relations, partners, colleagues, mates, neighbors. You forget their families, dependants, spouses, relations. You leave them to their pain, sorrow and tears and take off. This is very wrong! David remembered Jonathan. Though Jonathan was gone, but the covenant, relationship must continue to speak and favor anybody that will remain in his linage. This is godliness! This is real spirituality! Fortunately, they got Ziba, a servant in Saul’s house that knew where a survivor of the dynasty - Mephibosheth was, though in total isolation - crippled and languishing. David ordered Ziba to go immediately and fetch him. Mark the word ‘fetch’ by the King James Version. God is today sending a Ziba, an angel to fetch you out of that situation in the mighty name of Jesus! Yes, there are angels that their work is to seek and fetch out those that have been wounded, forgotten, isolated, victimized, traumatized, abandoned, deprived ‘crippled’ emotionally, physically, financially, spiritually, debased, betrayed, frustrated and dumped. They are coming for you, to fetch you back to the kings table; where you were destined to be! God bless you. Till next week. Please, share this message with others.
