Isaac Adongo Breaks Ground for New Sherigu Senior High School
Sherigu, Upper East Region — A major step toward expanding access to quality education in the Bolgatanga Central Constituency has been taken following the official sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of a new Senior High School in Sherigu.
The project, championed by Isaac Adongo, Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central, marks a significant milestone in efforts to improve educational infrastructure in the Upper East Region.
The ceremony was led by the Upper East Regional Minister, Donatus Atanga Akamugre, and attended by several key government and party officials. Among them were Roland Atanga Ayoo, Municipal Chief Executive for Bolgatanga, alongside regional executives and administrative officers. Their presence underscored the importance of the project to the region’s development agenda and reaffirmed government’s commitment to improving learning opportunities.
The Sherigu Senior High School is being developed as a modern educational facility designed to meet the growing demand for secondary education in the area. The project will feature a three-storey classroom block with 18 units to accommodate increasing student enrollment, as well as separate two-storey dormitory blocks for boys and girls, each designed to provide safe and comfortable residential spaces. In addition, a two-storey administration and library block will serve as the hub for academic and administrative activities, while dedicated sanitation facilities will promote hygiene and wellbeing among students.
Provision has also been made for staff accommodation, including four semi-detached two-bedroom bungalows to support teacher retention, as well as a three-bedroom bungalow for the headmaster to ensure effective on-site leadership and supervision.
Stakeholders at the ceremony emphasized that the project is expected to significantly improve access to quality secondary education for students in Sherigu and surrounding communities. By reducing the need for long-distance travel and providing a conducive learning environment, the school is anticipated to enhance academic performance and overall educational outcomes.
The initiative also reflects a broader commitment to youth empowerment and human capital development. Observers note that the investment in durable and modern infrastructure will not only strengthen the education system but also boost community pride and support long-term socio-economic growth in the area.
With construction now underway, residents of Sherigu are hopeful that the new Senior High School will open doors to greater opportunities for the younger generation and mark the beginning of sustained educational transformation in the Upper East Region.
