Government should prioritize the establishment of FSCs in the Volta Region -Volta Youth in Agriculture

Hon Eric Opoku

As passionate advocates for our farming communities, we received the news with great joy regarding plans by HE John Dramani Mahama’s led government to launch the first Farmer Service Centre at Afram Plains. We commend the President for keeping to his campaign promises. It is a great opportunity to change the landscape of agriculture in that area of the

We are by this statement appealing to Hon Eric Opoku the agriculture minister and his deputy Hon John Dumelo to consider prioritizing the establishment of Farmer Service Centres in the Volta Region after that of Afram Plains because a lot of the youth in agriculture in the region are expectant of it and it is important to sustain their interests thereby making agriculture sexy for the youth.

We all know that farming is not just a job, it is livelihood, our heritage and our future yet our youth are overwhelmed by the challenges of farming. Whether it is finding reliable information, accessing quality seeds, understanding the latest farming techniques, getting assess to machinery for clearing, ploughing or harvesting etc.

These Farmer Service Centres when established after that of Afram Plains would serve as a beacon of hope and support for many of our youth farmers. It would provide essential services such as training programs, access to high-quality resources, and a platform for these young farmers to share knowledge and experiences.

Economic equality is at the heart of this advocacy. The establishment of these Farmer Service Centres in the Volta Region would be a step towards leveling the playing field. It would empower the youth are into agriculture by providing them with the tools they need to succeed and thrive in a competitive market.

By supporting these young passionate youth in agriculture, we would not only be creating income for them but also contributing to the economic stability of our communities because they would become job creators, innovators, and leaders.

By prioritizing the establishment of Farmer Service Centres in the Volta Region, we can turn the vision of the youth into reality and lay the foundation for a brighter future for all farmers. We look up to Hon Eric Opoku to lead this charge.
