Nkoko Nkitinkiti: Anyone who gets less than 50 birds must report — Agric Minister

The Minister for Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, has called on beneficiaries of the government’s poultry initiative, popularly known as “Nkoko Nkitinkiti,” to report any instance where they receive fewer birds than allocated.

His appeal follows complaints from some beneficiaries who say they received less than the approved number of birds under the programme.

Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, Mr. Opoku stressed that each registered beneficiary is entitled to a minimum of 50 birds.

“Every beneficiary is to get 50 birds minimum. We gave each constituency 10,000 birds to be distributed to 200 people. Before the birds were due for distribution, we gave them forms to register the 200 beneficiaries, so that we know the people who are indeed benefiting, and in the next phase, those people will not benefit again,” he explained.

He acknowledged reports of shortfalls but insisted that the government has not intentionally reduced allocations.

“So, it will surprise me that some people will be given less than 50. But we have heard about situations where a beneficiary gives out their share of the 50 to others. But it is not the case that we are deliberately sharing less than that,” he said.

Mr. Opoku urged affected individuals to lodge formal complaints with the appropriate authorities to enable corrective action.

“Anybody who received less than 50 should report to the agric director and also the Feed Ghana Coordinator,” he added.

The “Nkoko Nkitinkiti” initiative is part of broader government efforts to boost local poultry production, improve household incomes and strengthen food security across the country.
