CPP To Sue Government On Behalf Of “RIPPED‑OFF” Ghanaian Youth

The Convention People’s Party (CPP) has taken notice of a video circulating on social media in which the Chairman and Leader of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is seen mocking Ghanaian youth who were denied entry into the security services after applying to serve their country.

For the avoidance of doubt, it is the NDC, as a political party, that currently forms the John Mahama–led government.

It is this same government that invited Ghanaian youth to apply for recruitment into the security services—including the Police Service, Immigration Service, Prisons Service, and Fire Service.

Despite knowing that financial clearance existed for only 5,000 recruits, the government proceeded to sell recruitment forms to over 500,000 applicants.

This was not an error. It was a calculated and deliberate scheme to exploit desperate and unemployed Ghanaian youth.

With each applicant paying GH¢220 for a voucher, an estimated GH¢113 million has been collected from young people—most of whom were later disqualified.

The unfortunate comments made by Mr. Asiedu Nketiah, mocking these “cheated and robbed” youth, cannot be taken lightly. Ghana has previously witnessed loss of life during similar recruitment exercises, including those involving the armed forces.

Furthermore, the mockery cannot be ignored because this recruitment exercise represented a life‑changing opportunity for many young people whose monies, the CPP believes, have effectively been taken under false pretences by the NDC government.

The CPP demands clarity from government:
Is it now the official position that Ghanaian youth were deliberately denied entry into the security services because, as Mr. Asiedu Nketiah suggested, “some of the disqualified applicants must become thieves so that those being recruited can arrest them”?

The CPP calls on government to immediately apologise to all affected applicants and present a credible plan to employ them.

We further demand that all voucher fees collected be refunded in full to every applicant without delay. Failure to do so will compel the CPP to take legal action on behalf of the affected youth.

Additionally, the CPP reminds Mr. Asiedu Nketiah and other government officials—many of whom have secured lucrative positions for their children and relatives—that it is their responsibility to create employment opportunities for the unemployed youth of this country.

It is important to remind the NDC government that they are paid handsomely every month, receive generous allowances, and drive fuel‑sponsored vehicles provided by the taxpayer. These benefits exist so they can focus on creating the jobs and opportunities Ghanaian youth urgently need.

To Mr. Asiedu Nketiah, your so‑called apology is unacceptable and inadequate.

No amount of deliberate denial of decent jobs and opportunities will turn Ghanaian youth into criminals or push them into illegal activities.

To the youth of Ghana, the CPP stands firmly with you in this difficult moment. We will fight alongside you to ensure that justice is served.

Forward Ever!

Osei Kofi Acquah
National Communications Director, CPP
