International Democracy Union congratulates Bawumia on 2028 NPP flagbearer election
The International Democracy Union (IDU) has congratulated former Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia on his election as the New Patriotic Party’s flagbearer for the 2028 presidential election.
Dr. Bawumia was elected to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) into the next general election in a crucial contest held on Saturday, January 31.
In a letter dated February 16, and signed by the Chairman of the IDU, Stephen Harper, who is also Canada’s 22nd Prime Minister, the global centre-right alliance described Dr. Bawumia’s victory as a strong endorsement of his leadership and vision.
“On behalf of the International Democracy Union, it gives me great pleasure to extend my warmest congratulations to you on your election as the New Patriotic Party’s flagbearer for the 2028 Presidential Election,” the letter said in part.
The IDU noted that his election reflects the confidence party members and supporters have in his experience and commitment to public service.
“Your election by the Party is a clear expression of the confidence your colleagues and supporters place in your leadership, experience, and vision for Ghana’s future,” the statement noted.
The organisation said it values its longstanding relationship with member parties across the world, especially those that champion freedom, development and the rule of law.
It also wished Dr. Bawumia success as he prepares for the 2028 campaign, expressing hope that the election will be marked by civility and respect for democratic principles.
