National Teaching Council opens registration for 2026 Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination 1

The National Teaching Council has announced the opening of registration for the 2026 Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination 1.

The examination is a mandatory requirement for all prospective teachers seeking professional licensing to practice in Ghana.

Eligibility for the examination is limited to candidates who hold a Bachelor of Education Degree or a Postgraduate Diploma in Education. Applicants who obtained their qualifications from foreign institutions must present a certificate evaluation report from the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission to confirm their eligibility.

Prospective candidates are advised to visit the official indexing portal at http://indexing.ntc.gov.gh to verify their status before starting the registration process.

The indexing fee is 50 Ghana Cedis. Candidates who are resitting the examination are exempt from the indexing process.

Payments can be made at any Prudential Bank branch nationwide. Alternatively, candidates may pay via mobile money on all networks by dialing 772 51 and selecting Teacher Licensure from the menu options. Payment must be made using the candidate’s college or university index number. After completing the process, candidates will receive a confirmation message containing their name, indexing number, and further instructions.

Fresh candidates will pay 450 Ghana Cedis to sit for three papers. Candidates re sitting one paper will pay 150 Ghana Cedis. Those re sitting two papers will pay 210 Ghana Cedis, while candidates re sitting all three papers will pay 385 Ghana Cedis.

Registration opens on 16 February 2026 and closes on 10 March 2026. The examination will be conducted from 23 March to 25 March 2026.

All eligible candidates are encouraged to complete their registration within the stipulated period to avoid inconvenience. The Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination remains a critical step in promoting professionalism, competence, and high standards within the teaching profession in Ghana.
