Much Ado about Greenland
Wow! Who would have suspected that Europeans could suddenly become sentimental?
One morning, we woke up to find Europeans rubbing their eyes and discovering that Greenland exists not just as a slab of ice on Mercator’s racist map, not as a NATO chessboard, not as a frozen aircraft carrier pointed at Russia and China, but as “a people.”
And they went ballistic, a few short steps from thermonuclear. Cue outrage. Cue sanctimony. Cue the familiar European opera: furrowed brows, lips trembling with righteous indignation, and fiery sermons about indigenous rights delivered by men and women whose hands are still dripping with colonial blood.
At the center of this theatrical performance stands Denmark, a country that has perfected the art of moral ventriloquism, speaking of human rights while sitting on the skulls of the people it crushed to build its comfort.
Given its colonial past and its current virulent racism, we can safely dismiss the sudden Danish love affair with Greenland as a genuine concern. It is not; it’s panic. The Danes are afraid that the old imperial furniture might be rearranged without Copenhagen’s permission.
As I have written several times, were hypocrisy to be capable of killing, Europeans would have long disappeared! These are people who have elevated sanctimonious hypocrisy to the level of praxis. “Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. So said the men and women who chase anyone who offended them to the end of the world. “Love thy neighbor.” Apart from some stupid maudlin songs, where in soulless Europe does one find love? People who allow their indigent people, including the older adults, to perish in cold, hardly qualify to preach love.
That is just by the way.
Anyone familiar with European brutal history would know that the Kingdom of Denmark is not a “benign” colonial power. The Danes were enthusiastic participants in the most lucrative crime in human history: the transatlantic slave trade. On the Gold Coast, today’s Ghana, Denmark ran forts, some of which still exist, traded in human flesh, and profited from the systematic dehumanization of Africans. Danish ships did not carry morality; they carried chains. Danish administrators did not bring civilization; they brought whips, guns, and ledgers calculating African lives in profit margins. Here is a link to one of my articles on one of the Forts: https://alaye.biz/help-save-the-fort-prinzenstein-at-keta/
This is the same Denmark that now clutches its pearls over Greenland, as if it has suddenly discovered an ancestral duty to protect the Inuit from the rough hands of others. The irony would be hilarious if it were not obscene. The Inuit did not need Denmark to “discover,” “manage,” or “infantilize” them. They existed, thrived, adapted, endured, long before a single Dane staggered north clutching a flag and a Bible, “discovering” them as a rapist discovered the woman he raped.
Denmark’s record in Greenland is not one of care; it is one of brutal, racist control. Forced assimilation. Cultural erasure. Just like in the plantations of North America, economic dependency was carefully engineered to ensure subservience. And in recent memory, scandals so grotesque they would make a Victorian imperialist blush: Inuit women subjected to coercive birth control policies, their bodies treated as demographic problems to be managed by bureaucrats in Copenhagen.
And the Dames want applause from us for owning Greenland. And Europeans joined them, as it always does when it comes to defending colonial interests. Even the mental and physical midget in the Elysee Palace, who couldn’t protect himself against his wife’s assaults, puffed up his tiny chest and promised military aid against the mighty US military.
Pathetic.
This is the same Europe that lectures Africa on democracy while installing plantation managers as presidents. The same Europe that speaks of migration “crises” while conveniently forgetting that its wealth is the compounded interest of centuries of looting, and that it is its interventions across the world that created the refugee problem. The same Europe that preaches diversity in Brussels cafés but panics at the sight of non-white bodies crossing its borders.
Denmark, in particular, has elevated racism to statecraft. While posturing as progressive, it enforces some of the most restrictive, exclusionary immigration policies on the continent. Unlike its Scandinavian neighbors, who at least attempt the pretense of humanitarianism, Denmark has made it clear: non-white migrants are not welcome. Ghetto laws. Asset seizures. Cultural tests thinly disguised as civilizational loyalty oaths. A country so terrified of demographic change that it legislates paranoia.
And we are to believe that this is the moral authority now defending Greenland?
We must admire the audacity of Europeans for being such shameless hypocrites.
Europe’s outrage over Greenland is not about Inuit rights. It is about ownership. It is about territory and protecting NATO’s northern flank. It is about the vast mineral wealth and the shipping lanes that are opening as the ice melts. A planetary catastrophe repackaged as an opportunity.
Greenland’s geography is “strategic,” and therefore sacred to Europe’s interests. Trust Eurocrats - the possession of a colony was hastily rebranded as guardianship and protection of an indigenous people.
Of course, anyone with brains knows that this is colonialism’s favorite trick: to rename domination as protection. Protectorates eventually became colonies, and sometimes bloody wars were needed to evict the protectors.
This is the bloody history of Europe
The European Union, that bloated bureaucracy of selective indignation, now joins the chorus. Stern statements are issued. Grave concerns are expressed. Europe pretends to be offended on behalf of indigenous people, but it has never stopped exploiting, from Kanaky to Mayotte, from French Guiana to the Caribbean, from the Sahel to the Pacific.
Here is a simple question, one Europeans never like to answer:
If you care so deeply about indigenous peoples, why are you still occupying their lands?
Why does France still clutch its overseas “departments” like heirlooms stolen from a dead man’s house? Why does the Netherlands lecture the world while sitting on Caribbean colonies? Why does Britain, recently ejected from the EU but still spiritually present in its arrogance, cling to overseas territories as if empire were a lifeclass choice?
As anyone with an IQ above single digit should know: Racist Europe does not defend indigenous peoples. It manages them. Denmark is only a particularly sanctimonious specimen.
The truth is that Greenland embarrasses Europe. It exposes the lie at the heart of the European project: that colonialism ended, that racism softened, apology tours and museum plaques resolved that history. Greenland reminds us that colonialism did not disappear; it changed its accent.
The Inuit are not wards of the Danish state. They are not props in a geopolitical drama. They are a people with agency, history, and the right to determine their own future, without Copenhagen’s permission, without Brussels’ guidance, without Europe’s sermons.
And if Europeans truly care, if even a molecule of this sudden concern is genuine, there is a simple prescription: Withdraw and let the Inuits determine their own future without Europe’s tears.
If they want to be taken as genuine articles, Europeans should wipe their duplicitous tears, dismantle the scaffold of empire, and grant Greenland independence. No one should doubt that the people who existed long before Europe arrived will find ways to navigate their lives without colonial overlords pretending to love them.
We all know that Europe will never do this because this is not about Greenland; it is about Europe’s terror of becoming irrelevant. Mortally wounded by being sidelined in the new World Order, the Big Three (the USA, Russia, and China) are crafting, and Europe is petrified of a world where it no longer owns, manages, or lectures. Europeans are afraid of a future where indigenous peoples speak for themselves, and Europe is forced, for once in over five hundred years, to listen in silence.
