ASWAJ Central Regional Imam pushes for conversion of Nana Khadija School Complex into College of Education
The Central Regional Imam of the Ahlu Sunna Wal Jama’a (ASWAJ), Sheikh Ahmed Haroun Toure Jawara, has reiterated calls for the conversion of the Nana Khadija School Complex into a College of Education to help address the growing demand for trained teachers in the Central Region and across the country.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony held at the premises of Nana Khadija School Complex, Sheikh Jawara explained that the facility was originally established to promote quality education, discipline and moral development within the Muslim community and its environs.
However, he said the school had remained dormant for some time due to the introduction of Free Senior High School and operational challenges beyond the control of its management.
He noted that renewed commitment from community members, traditional authorities and religious leaders has revived efforts to restore the institution and reposition it to play a critical role in Ghana’s educational development.
According to him, the transformation of the facility into a College of Education would significantly contribute to teacher training and human capital development, particularly in underserved communities.
As part of the revival process, a graduation ceremony was organised for students who successfully completed their Senior High School (SHS) education at the institution.
The event, he said, marked a major milestone and demonstrated the readiness of the school to transition into a higher educational institution.
Sheikh Jawara commended parents, teachers and community leaders for their unwavering support, stressing that the proposed College of Education would create employment opportunities, improve access to tertiary education and help reduce the shortage of qualified teachers in the Central Region.
He therefore appealed to the Ministry of Education, Ghana Tertiary Education Commission, philanthropists and benevolent organisations to support the initiative.
The ASWAJ Central Regional Imam also called on Muslims, philanthropists and corporate bodies to contribute financially and materially towards the revival of the Nana Khadija School Complex, adding that elders and the school’s management would intensify engagement with individuals and institutions to mobilise resources to ensure the realisation of 0the vision.
On his part, the administrator of the Nana Khadija School Complex expressed gratitude to ASWAJ leadership and stakeholders for their support, noting that management remains committed to working with all relevant authorities to meet the requirements for the establishment of a College of Education.
He assured the public that the institution would continue to prioritise quality education and moral values as it moves towards achieving its long-term goal.
