NACI condemns the brutal assassination of Saif Al-Islam Gaddafi in Libya

Saif Al-Islam Gaddafi

Amid the heinous crime and crime against humanity that the Al-Qaeda terrorist outfits are continuing to unleash in Africa, the continent has received a jolt with the brutal assassination of Saif Al-Islam Gaddafi, the son of the late Brother Muammar Gaddafi and presidential aspirants in Libya. He was mercilessly gunned down by assailants believed to be hired and paid by forces hostile to peace, security and stability in Africa.

It is therefore, with profound sorrow and utmost indignation that the New African Charter International (NACI) condemns this brutal, senseless and high profile political murder on the soil in Libya. Brother Saif Al-Islam Gaddafi was brutally murdered on February 3, 2026 at his home in the Libyan Western city of Ziltan. He was martyred in an attack that was clearly not only against his person, but also against the very principles of peace, justice, freedom and truth the Libyan leader was known to be defending and promoting in the North African nation.

The New African Charter International condemns in the highest degree possible the brutal and merciless killing of individuals who made the decision to live peaceful and productive lives. By all indications, the barbaric murder of Brother Saif Al-Islam bears the indelible mark of international bigots, who wanted him out of the scene as they did to his father, Brother Mohamed Gaddafi in October 2011. Clearly, the perpetrators’ intention is to strike fear in the hearts of people and silence the voices of those who seek to restore the lost dignity of the Libyan nation.

The architects of the genocide in Libya have refused to condemn the murder of Brother Saif Al-Islam. Rival political opponents in Tripoli and the corporate media have criminally used the opportunity to defame and discredit the Gaddafi family with malice, grudges and hatred. This unfortunately, is sending shockwaves around the globe community, prompting outrage, finger-pointing and messages of sympathy from all corners. For Africans on the continent and the diasporas, the killing of Saif Al-Islam was a grim reminder of a violent society that is tearing itself apart.

The New African Charter International, which supported unreservedly Saif’s struggle to recover the stolen peace, freedom and dignity in Libya, shared fully his efforts to end the violence and senseless war in the North African nation. Saif stood for good governance in Libya, a civilian-based government, and for real solutions to the social and economic problems plaguing the Libyan people.

Like many other African leaders that were murdered in the last fifty and more years, Saif’s voice has today been violently silenced, but his vision of a New Libya, must be upheld despite the reign of terrorism and violence. It is therefore crucial that the international community should immediately and clearly demand that those responsible for this barbaric assassination should not go unpunished.

No words can express the loss to Africa and the African diasporas, for the brutal murder of Saif Al-Islam. He has done so much to stabilise Libya, rebuild the North African nation to gain back its glory. And today, NACI pays homage to Brother Dr Saif Al-Islam Gaddafi. Libya has lost peace and stability; Africa has lost freedom and a great leader; and the global community has lost a strong advocate of peace, human rights, good governance, justice, freedom and dignity.

NACI calls on the African Union, the United Nations and all relevant international agencies to swiftly investigate this heinous crime and bring the perpetrators to justice. NACI likewise calls on African leaders and institutions to take decisive and concrete action to end the violence in Libya.

To the Gaddafi family, NACI extends its deepest condolences and assurances. We grieve with the Gaddafi family as we stand with them in this moment of tears. This terrorist action that ended the life of Brother Saif Al-Islam serves as both a memorial and a call to action. The blood of our fallen heroes and heroines across Africa and the diasporas cry out—not only for justice, but for the collective courage to continue the struggle from where they left before they were brutally murdered. NACI will actively continue to advocate peace and stability in Libya and against the looting of natural resources, against poverty and impoverishment of the masses in the North African nation.

The New African Charter International (NACI) is an African-based advocacy movement dedicated to promoting peace, stability, sovereignty, and development across the continent. It advocates for the protection of human rights and opposes foreign military intervention, calling for a New Africa that harnesses its resources for its own people. NACI aims to unite Africa and supports African-led solutions to continental problems, often advocating against foreign neo-colonialism and intervention.

May God save Africa!
