ECOWAS provides $719,733 to Togo in support of refugees and displaced persons
The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has provided US$719,733 in humanitarian aid to Togo to support refugees, internally displaced persons, asylum seekers, returnees, and vulnerable host communities.
The allocation is part of the regional bloc’s Vision 2050, aimed at promoting solidarity and coordinated humanitarian action across West Africa.
The funds were officially handed over during a ceremony in Togo on Monday, January 26, 2026, with officials from ECOWAS and the Togolese government in attendance.
The support is being implemented in collaboration with the World Food Programme (WFP) and coordinated nationally by the National Civil Protection Agency (ANPC).
The regional bloc stressed that the funds are intended to reach the most vulnerable populations efficiently.
The donation, according to a statement issued by ECOWAS, emphasises its continued role in fostering regional solidarity and responding to humanitarian crises within member states.
Togo is experiencing a worsening humanitarian crisis driven by security issues in the northern Savanes region, stemming from militant attacks in the Sahel
As of mid-2025, over 46,000 refugees and thousands of internally displaced persons (IDPs) were reportedly facing acute food insecurity, alongside severe floods that have exacerbated vulnerability.
