Ghana orders four multi-mission Airbus Helicopters for the first time

Airbus Helicopters announced on Thursday, January 15, 2026, that it had secured a contract from Ghana’s Ministry of Defence for the supply of four helicopters—two H175Ms, one ACH175, and one ACH160.

The acquisition aligns with government plans outlined during the presentation of the 2026 Budget in Parliament on November 13, 2025. At the time, Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson disclosed that government would, beginning in 2026, commence procurement processes for four modern helicopters, alongside one long-range and one medium-range aircraft, to enhance the operational efficiency of the Ghana Air Force.

Under the agreement, Airbus said the two H175Ms will be deployed as multi-mission helicopters to support transport, search and rescue operations, emergency medical services, and disaster relief. The ACH175 and ACH160 will be used primarily for transport duties.

Mr. Montalvo expressed particular excitement about the introduction of the H175M into Ghana’s fleet. He noted that the aircraft’s deployment will demonstrate its versatility across a wide range of defence and security missions.

The H175 helicopter, which has been in service since 2014, belongs to Airbus’ super-medium class. It is designed to combine long-range capability with high payload capacity, smooth flight performance, and reliability in demanding environments.

Airbus says the H175 is suitable for various missions, including search and rescue, disaster relief, public services, military operations, offshore activities, and private or business aviation. This flexibility makes it ideal for both civilian and security operations in Ghana.

The order also includes Airbus Corporate Helicopters models, notably the ACH160 and ACH175.
