Frimpong-Boateng made careless statement we were not expecting from a man of his stature — NPP justifies expulsion decision
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has defended its decision to begin expulsion proceedings against former Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, following his description of the party as “fake.”
Speaking to Citi News on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong insisted that the party’s actions are fully consistent with its constitution and internal regulations. He said the former minister’s comments were careless and damaging to the party’s unity, values, and public image.
“The party is governed by laws, and when a person makes a statement that amounts to misconduct, the party must follow due process. That is exactly what we have done,” he said.
Mr. Frimpong noted that, ideally, Professor Frimpong-Boateng could have voluntarily resigned to preserve his integrity, but having not done so, the party is compelled to take formal action.
“We could have written a letter to expel him immediately, or he could have resigned on his own. He has done neither. As a party committed to due process, we must now refer the matter to Article 444 of our constitution, which empowers the National Executive Committee to determine expulsion,” he explained.
The General Secretary described the former minister’s remarks as “careless” and emphasized that the party will continue to enforce its rules to protect its values and cohesion.
