Begoro Prebyterian Church And The Fanatic Sect Members
Introduction
Let us close our episode with the study of the psychohistory of the fanatic sect members who could well be diagnosed as narcissists, that concern the manner they care about themselves alone, their religious values, their personal interests, their financial gains, theatrical gains of being devout Christians compared to others. They do not care about others with regard to the matters that seem to be of concern to a large segment of the extended family and the community of Begoro. Already, we have stated categorically that the Begoro Presbyterian Authority did not exercise true leadership in their decision about allowing the religious fanatics to bury their mother as a Seventh-day Adventist, even though she was a bona fide Presbyterian, and a member of the Singing Band group for the ninety years she lived on Earth. Had the Church rejected their selfish plea, this matter would not have gone far enough to call for the writing of this paper. From the new Reverend Minister who administered the case poorly, to the workers at the secretariat, who no one seems to care about the consequences of their actions and the implications for the larger Presbyterian congregations that reside in the three different churches in the Begoro District.
The Sub Chief, we have indicated already, suffers from severe Stroke disability with mental illness as the underlying condition. What about the three religious fanatics and hypocrites who belong to one of the extreme sects in Begoro now: Aharriet A, Antowiaa A., and Abusuadanin KS? Can we diagnose these individuals apart from their narcissistic behaviors, which lie behind the case being dissected psychologically in the interim?
Aharriet A.
Aharriet A., a 61-year-old woman and a Retired teacher, used to belong to one super-fanatic sect that Begoro Fanteakwa had ever produced, which was started by a Commercial Secondary School owner. These sect members could marry as many wives as they wanted. Their men wore long red robes like the Muslims, while their women wore white robes with white headscarves. They met on different occasions, but usually it was in the middle of the night. The patient became a member of this sect, which affected her whole life, including the time she came home after church service. Her parents became worried and decided to find a way to get her out of this secret sect. Through diligent efforts and prayers, her elder brother and some family members managed to sever her membership from this sect, which brought joy to the immediate family and the whole extended family. After this ordeal, the patient became steady for a while and became serious in school, and managed to attend a Teacher Training College at Kyebi, Akim Abuakwa, where she met her husband. Now she has delivered two big boys, of whom one lives abroad. Aharriet A. became a member of another Sabbath worshipper sect, which could be said to be moderate in its religious beliefs and views. Even though the sect is not as fanatic as Harriet A., she has been very fanatic and suffers from some psychiatric illness, such as obsessive compulsive disorder, because of the manner she wants everything in the house to be in order and clean, including the toilet room. She prays about five times before the food she is eating finishes. She prays once the food is set on the table. Then, in the middle of eating, another prayer will be said before the final prayer, which will come when she is about to get up from the table. Aharriet A. will shut herself up in a room in a house where a funeral service is taking place in order to celebrate the Holy Sabbath alone in her room. She will not even take her old biological mother to the hospital if she happens to be sick on the Sabbath day. Food for the Sabbath will be cooked on Fridays and kept in the Fridge to be eaten the whole day. Her fanatical views are so extreme that many people
who attend the same church with her wonder how she manages to keep her detailed appointments and chores because of her obsessive-compulsive disorder. Aharriet A. complains of her husband suffering from prostate cancer and the different treatments, which worry her and the family. In addition, she had to take care of her old mother who suffered from diabetes and High blood pressure (BP) illnesses. There is also.o fear of anxiety about her becoming a pensioner as a school teacher
Antowiaa A.
Antowiaa A. is a 41-year-old woman who had three children with an immigration officer. She has been a traveler and a businesswoman before deciding to attend the Teacher Training College at the University of Education, Winneba, to pursue a teaching profession. Even though she is married to a man who has his own profession, the patient is mostly alone with her three children and a young aide at home who helps her with the children. Her general psychological condition and marital problems situation were considered dire, such that one would recognize her as a sobbing widow even though she was married with children. She suffers from depression and anxiety, and most of the time, a person will notice from her actions. She speaks to people without showing respect, especially middle-aged men and young men. Her fanatic religious beliefs and views about her church, and the manner she keeps the seventh-day Sabbath, are similar to Aharriet A. She also will not even care about her old mother and get her to the hospital if she happens to be unwell on a Sabbath day in her care. She cooks food for the Sabbath and on Fridays, and she will keep it in the Fridge to be eaten the whole day. Her views are extreme, such that many people who attend the same church with her wonder how she manages to keep her appointments because of her depression and anxiety disorders. These conditions sometimes make her too talkative. She could also seem pensive and morose at times because of her depression. Antowiaa A. complains that her husband is away, so they hardly see him, even during the weekend, when he is supposed to be free and be with them. Her mother’s illnesses were worrying. Sometimes she had to take care of her old mother, who suffered from diabetes and High blood pressure at the same time.
Abusuadanin KS.
Abusuadanin KS., a 64-year-old man commonly known by the larger family, has a wife and many children. Yet he is never satisfied with one wife despite being an Elder of his Sabbath Church. He has gone through several infidelity problems and has children outside his marriage. The most serious one was when a daughter of their closest neighbor complained that the Elder Abusuadanin wanted to pounce on her and sleep with her. But the child was born at a time when Abusuadanin was around and can be considered his daughter. The Elders in their local Church have taken over the case, which nearly got to the Police and consequently to Court. Though he has a profession as an electrician, he has never worked in it. His “jack of all trades but master of none” is worrying him as he is all over, apart from his traditional responsibilities as Abusuadanin of Asonafo Clan.
Abusuadanin can’t think deeply, so he makes many mistakes about his job and the motorcycle he uses. He had two serious accidents where he nearly killed people involved in the accident. In one of them, he was asked to pay the hospital bills of the patient he nearly killed with his motor. Abusuadanin is not only fanatic about his church beliefs, but also a hypocrite.
Recently, when her biological immediate sister died as a Presbyterian member who functioned as an usher, he did not see the need to remove the corpse on Thursday and bury her on Friday morning. He did not attend their hypocritical Sabbath service on Saturday. Instead, he was seen throughout the funeral service, which took place on Saturday and Sunday, and also on Sunday, attending the Thanksgiving service. Most people think this Abusuadanin was after money, which is why he manipulated these two sick individuals to cause this mess in the family. His infidelity problems are a worry to his beautiful wife, children, and immediate family, such that his wife has decided to leave him if he does not stop this behavior, which has been repeated over and over again.
Psychological Implication and Concluding Remarks
Members join an organization with the intention that they will be protected whether they are alive or dead. They believe that their sacrifice will be honored and never think that their church will betray them when they are no longer alive. Begoro
Presbyterian Church should have taken the responsibility to protect its member who was afraid that her fanatic sect's Children in Begoro would disobey her death wishes (Nsamanse). They seem not to care about a person who once worshipped with them and became a member of the Presbyterian Singing Band. If it wants to maintain its good name and position in the country as a leader of freedom of worship and the salvation bestowed upon all Christians by the Lord Jesus Christ, they should honor the old lady and bury her on Saturday as a Presbyterian.
These three fanatics we have done their psychohistory are seriously suffering from some psychiatric disorders, which are those of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Depression and Anxiety, and Infidelity in marriage and covetousness respectively. These might be one of the several reasons why they are making their religious worship theatrical to cover up their own guilt and weaknesses. Christ abhor such look warm Christians. Lack of clear leadership in the Begoro Presbyterian Church to take their responsibilities as an organization in order to protect its vibrant members, dead or alive, has allowed this problem to arise. The members of the congregation who read and note these deficits should remind the Reverend Ministers and laymen involved to take their responsibilities seriously. Give the virtuous woman a Saturday burial to fulfil her death wishes (Nsamanse).
