Nalerigu Youth reject claims of tribal violence, describe arson attacks as isolated crime
The Nalerigu Youth Association has strongly condemned the burning of two houses and an attempted arson attack on a vehicle in the area, firmly rejecting suggestions that the incidents were linked to communal or tribal conflict.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, the association described the acts as outright criminal and warned against attempts to misrepresent the situation as factional violence. The youth stressed that Nalerigu remains calm, united and peaceful, with people from different ethnic and tribal backgrounds living together without tension.
According to the group, there is no fighting in Nalerigu, and the recent incidents should not be used to tarnish the town’s reputation. They said ongoing engagements are being held to educate the youth to avoid misconduct and to work closely with security agencies to preserve peace and public order.
The association described the arson incidents as isolated criminal acts, adding that the alleged perpetrators are non-indigenes. They therefore called on security agencies to intensify intelligence-led operations to identify, arrest and prosecute those responsible in accordance with the law.
While reaffirming their support for security interventions, the youth expressed deep concern over the frequent imposition of curfews whenever such incidents occur. They said the curfews have imposed unnecessary hardship on law-abiding residents and have unfairly portrayed Nalerigu as a conflict-prone community.
They particularly criticised restrictions on the use of motorbikes and the wearing of smocks, noting that motorbikes are the main means of transportation in the area. According to them, the restrictions disrupted livelihoods, economic activities and daily movement, with the effects felt most sharply during the Christmas season.
The association appealed to the relevant authorities to urgently review the restrictions and adopt more precise, intelligence-driven measures that target criminal elements without punishing innocent residents.
They assured Ghanaians and the international community that Nalerigu remains peaceful, secure and welcoming, and encouraged investors and business partners to continue engaging with confidence.
