Dr. Rachel Naa-Du Laryea Pays Courtesy Call on the Ga Mantse and President of the GaDangme Council

Nii Tackie Teiko Tsuru II & Dr Naa-Du Laryea

Rachel Naa-Du Laryea, a U.S.-based academic, author, and asset researcher, paid a courtesy visit to the Ga Mantse at the Ga Mantse Palace, marking a significant engagement with traditional leadership in Ghana. During the visit, she presented a copy of her newly published book, Black Capitalists, to His Royal Majesty Nii Tackie Teiko Tsuru II. The gesture underscored the strengthening connection between global Black scholarship and traditional African leadership, reaffirming the enduring relevance of culture, history, and indigenous institutions in shaping contemporary economic discourse.

Following her visit to the Ga Mantse Palace, Dr. Naa-Du Laryea also called on the President of the GaDangme Council, Nii Ayikoi Otoo—former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice—as part of broader consultations with traditional authorities and community stakeholders. She presented him with a copy of Black Capitalists and engaged in discussions centered on economic empowerment, ownership, and sustainable development within the GaDangme community and beyond.

Dr. Laryea, who holds two PhDs and serves as an asset and wealth researcher at JPMorgan Chase, brings a rare blend of academic rigor and professional insight to her work. In Black Capitalists, she interrogates Black economic empowerment across Africa and the diaspora, challenging the assumption that Black participation in capitalism is inherently at odds with social justice. Instead, the book explores how wealth can be built ethically while advancing social good and strengthening communities.

Throughout her engagements, Dr. Naa-Du Laryea reaffirmed her commitment to GaDangme development and broader African economic advancement. Her work focuses on supporting policymakers, business owners, and workers through research-informed policy engagement, entrepreneurship, and strategic investment—particularly by leveraging diaspora expertise to drive local development and job creation.

Nii Ayikoi Otoo welcomed the visit and commended Dr. Laryea for her dedication to advancing economic empowerment through scholarship, authorship, and advocacy. He emphasized the importance of initiatives that promote long-term prosperity by strengthening leadership, ownership, and opportunity across institutions, enterprises, and the workforce.

Dr. Naa-Du Laryea is expected to continue engaging traditional leaders, institutions, policymakers, business owners, and workers as part of her broader mission to advance inclusive wealth creation and Black economic empowerment globally.
