Rejoinder: The Bawku Chieftaincy Conflict Needs To Be Resolved Within The Framework Of The 1992 Constitution

I read a piece of a write-up dated 14th December 2025 by Martin A.B.K. Amidu, titled: THE BAWKU CHIEFTAINCY CONFLICT NEEDS TO BE RESOLVED WITHIN THE FRAMEWORK OF THE 1992 CONSTITUTION:

In part of his write-up— he stated, and I quote...“As a citizen of Ghana who has played leading roles in past circus performances intended to resolve the Bawku conflict over the years and a person who hails from Bawku, I know what any misstep at Tuesday’s performance can bring to the people of Bawku town with whom I grew up and still interact with” end of quote.

Martin appears to want to benefits or be glorified as someone who has been involved in the Bawku past circus performances intended to resolve the Bawku conflict over the years and a person who hails from Bawku. In what ways, Sir?

Your contributions were purely political or personal and NOT to the interest of the good brethren of Bawku.

Martin Amidu is absolutely entitled to his opinion, understanding and what may come up from the mediation or the arbitration processes at the behest of the former president Nana Addo and President John Dramani Mahama. However, I am very critical of his timing with the 6 paged story telling and his choice of language; his attempt to play the only saint persona as a “ native ” of Bawku traditional area is an exercise in futility.

Let me state that Martin is a beneficiary of the Bawku conflict through his political affiliation with the P/NDC under former President Jerry John Rawlings ( a period that saw serious devision amongst Mamprusis and Kusasis (now Kusaug) together with his cohorts such as Cletus Avoka, former MP and current Council of State member appointed by the ruling government.

Martin partial misleading statement that suggests that politicians has not help much is an attempt to excused himself as a man who once steered and benefited politically all time of the Bawku conflict as a politician — To now cite what president Nana Addo (during his nature in office) and John Mahama (in a campaign rallied) to the wake of 2024 election at Bawku in a Kusasi dominated enclave at Gingande a suburb of Bawku has said or did is not any different typical of a politician from what he has done politically and legally in furtherance of the Kusasi independence claims. Just 3 years after the NDC, a party he served for decades, held various political portfolios as a political animal, was he counsel in a matter of Alhaji Ibrahim Adam Zangbeo (Then Regent of Bawku Traditional Area) v. Asigri Abugorago? Was he not a politician when the Bawku incidents happened throughout the 1980s? What at all is he trying tell Ghanaian and the good people of Bawku?

What is his current contribution to ensuring that Bawku, a town he brags of as a town he hails from is at peace of a messed he had contributed during his nature in office as the Upper East Regional Secretary in the years he BOLDLY mentioned when Asigri Abugorago purported installment took place?

Martin further made a suggestion, and I quote…”The Bawku conflict is a different identity based and intractable conflict which has also seen political interferences under the 1992 Constitution which eventually led the country to the violence of October 2024 and where we are today trying to resolve the same conflict outside the framework provided for such conflicts under the 1992 Constitution”…As a counsel to one of the feuding factions, what advise did or has he proffer to the Kusasis or Mamorusis (his friends) towards peace?

Has he called upon both sides to deploy constitutional legal framework in resolving our identity intractable conflicts?

I will conclude by calling on Martin Amidu to respect our intelligence for once. His attempt to neutrality and warning or lack of appreciation of the contribution gained as the result of the Otumfo Osei Tutu II mediation and or arbitration is very much appreciated by the good people of Bawku in its current form that lasted months.

Mr. Amidu should give us break and keep his suspicions thoughts of any misstep resulting out of the Otumfo Osei Titu II mediation and or arbitration committee recommendation to himself. Wasn’t he in government when the PNDC LAW 75 was repealed in the year 1996 under which law the Mamprusis went the Supreme Courts with Asigri Abugorago his client?

If my memory serves me right Martin Amidu is part of those who drafted and passed into law the PNDC Law 75 that withdrew recognition from Mamprusis and other Kusasis chiefs and restored chieftaincy recognition to the Abugrago posthumously.

As a native, stakeholder of the Bawku Skin Affairs, I finds it very disturbing and the level of dishonesty on the part of Martin Amidu in his needless premature, self glorifying write-up at this time when the nation is optimistic of finding lasting solution to the Bawku conflict when less than no person but Martin ALAMISI BEN KASSER AMIDU has to engineer conspiracy theory around a work done by no less a person but— our respected Otumfo Osei Tutu II.

Bawku will rise again to its loss glories!
God blessed our homeland, Bawku
God blessed Ghana
