Final farewell for Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah today

Preparations are complete for the final funeral rites of the late former Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, set to take place today at Jackson’s Park in Koforidua, the capital of the Eastern Region.

The ceremony, scheduled for 12:00 noon in the New Juaben South Municipality, will bring together family members, government officials, executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), traditional leaders, and members of the public to pay tribute to the late statesman.

Dr. Omane Boamah, who also served as Director of Elections and Information Technology for the NDC, tragically lost his life on August 6, 2025, in a military helicopter crash that claimed all eight lives on board. The accident involved a Ghana Air Force Harbin Z-9EH helicopter, tail number GHF 631.

The crash also claimed the lives of other notable figures, including Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Minister of Environment, Science and Technology; Muniru Mohammed Limuna, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; Samuel Sarpong, NDC Vice-Chair; Samuel Aboagye, former parliamentary candidate; Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala; Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu; and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

As the nation prepares to bid its final farewell, tributes continue to pour in, celebrating Dr. Omane Boamah’s dedication to public service and his enduring contributions to national security and democratic governance. Today’s ceremony at Jackson’s Park offers the country a solemn opportunity to honour the life and legacy of a devoted public servant.
