Daddy Lumba set for December 13 burial as court vacates injunction
The Accra High Court has cleared the way for the burial of the late legendary musician Daddy Lumba on December 13.
This follows the failure of the applicants, who earlier secured an injunction on the funeral, to comply with the court’s order to pay an amount of GHS2 million by 2:00 p.m. on December 12.

The earlier injunction was granted after the musician’s maternal family filed a suit restraining Kofi Owusu, the family head (Abusuapanyin), from organising the funeral.
The court had also barred Transitions Funeral Home from releasing the body until the dispute was resolved.
The judge noted that affidavits before the court showed the immediate family had been sidelined in the funeral arrangements.
While acknowledging that delaying the burial could increase costs, the court stressed the need to follow due process and ensure proper family involvement.
The ruling affirmed that the family head can lead funeral preparations, but must do so in consultation with the immediate family.
The court further ordered Kofi Owusu to convene a stakeholder meeting within three weeks to set a new burial date.
It also directed that all funds raised for the funeral be kept separate from accounts belonging to the Daddy Lumba Memorial Foundation, while the applicants were instructed to file an affidavit with the registrar.
The case stems from disagreements after Daddy Lumba’s death on July 26, 2025, at age 60.
